Items That Cannot Be Fixed in Repository

1. HTTP Security Headers

Limitation: GitHub Pages doesn’t allow custom HTTP headers
Missing headers:

Mitigation: Cloudflare proxy can add these headers if DNS is routed through CF

2. Enforce HTTPS

Limitation: Must be enabled manually in GitHub Settings > Pages
Action Required: Enable “Enforce HTTPS” checkbox after domain verification

3. Certificate Management

Limitation: GitHub manages TLS certificates automatically
Note: GitHub will provision Let’s Encrypt certificate for spandanm.com

Recommendations

Immediate (Post-Merge)

  1. Enable “Enforce HTTPS” in GitHub Pages settings
  2. Update email address from placeholder to real address
  3. Verify CSP doesn’t break any functionality

Future Enhancements

  1. Consider routing DNS through Cloudflare to add custom security headers
  2. Monitor Giscus security advisories
  3. Add /.well-known/security.txt for vulnerability disclosure
  4. Consider adding robots.txt if needed

Monitoring

  1. Watch for GitHub Security Advisories affecting Jekyll
  2. Subscribe to Giscus and MathJax security notifications
  3. Review CSP violations if analytics added

Risk Assessment

Overall Risk Level: LOW

The site follows security best practices for a static site. All high and medium severity issues have been addressed. Remaining risks are either accepted (third-party comment system) or outside repository control (HTTP headers).

Changes Made

Files Modified

  1. _layouts/default.html - Added CSP, referrer policy, pinned MathJax, fixed links
  2. _layouts/post.html - Fixed blog navigation link
  3. blog/index.html - Added rel attributes to blog links
  4. index.html - Complete redesign with secure links

Security Headers Added

<meta name="referrer" content="strict-origin-when-cross-origin">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Security-Policy" content="default-src 'self'; script-src 'self' 'unsafe-inline' https://giscus.app https://cdn.jsdelivr.net; style-src 'self' 'unsafe-inline' https://fonts.googleapis.com; font-src 'self' https://fonts.gstatic.com https://cdn.jsdelivr.net; img-src 'self' data: https:; connect-src 'self' https://giscus.app; frame-src https://giscus.app;">

CDN with SRI

<script async src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/mathjax@3.2.2/es5/tex-mml-chtml.js"

        crossorigin="anonymous"></script>

Conclusion

Site security posture is strong for a static academic homepage. All repository-level security issues have been addressed. The site now implements defense-in-depth through CSP, SRI, secure link attributes, and safe coding practices.
